Let’s talk about the non-physical benefits of hooping, and share a few of the wonderful advantages of coming to a HulaFit class every week.
If you’re reading this, the chances are you know about the physical benefits of hooping. Stronger core? Check. Improved posture? Check. Low impact exercise that’s kind on your joints? Check and check. However, have you thought much about the non-physical benefits of hooping, especially when you come to a HulaFit class each week? Let’s talk about it.
A weekly dose of joy
As adults, life can become pretty serious. Coming each week to a HulaFit class brings you that weekly buzz of joy. It’s a chance to let loose, have a laugh, play and move your body.
Playing invites us to release our inner child, helping us access states of joy, spontaneity and silliness. It can also increase our self-esteem, improve our communication skills and benefit our well-being.
Exercise triggers feelings of euphoria as your body releases endorphins. And those feelings are even better when you’re moving your body in a fun and playful way. Of course, you can still get euphoric feelings from a super challenging workout that pushes you to your limit – but you’re WAY less likely to come back every week for more.
Grow your confidence
There’s something magic about unlocking a new skill that does wonders for growing your confidence. With hula hooping, each new move you learn feels like a tiny milestone of achievement. Nothing matches the feeling of looking back after a year of weekly hooping and seeing how your skills have improved. It also can help with feelings of self-worth, as you are making time to prioritise your well-being. The confidence you gain from learning a new skill can help you in so many aspects of life.
Daisy, one of our fitness instructors, went to a HulaFit class as a total beginner, but after two years of weekly HulaFit classes, she trained to be an instructor in 2019:
“One of the biggest non-physical benefits of hooping is growing in confidence and skill. I spent the first couple of classes I attended working on keeping the hula hoop on my waist. With time it got easier and easier. My next big hurdle was keeping the hoop on my waist as I crisscrossed my legs – unlocking that felt amazing!
HulaFit gave me a strong foundation in on-body hula hooping that has helped me unlock advanced hula hoop moves like the vertical barrel roll. It has boosted my confidence and is an essential part of my week!”
Aly, one of our newer HulaFit instructors told us: “In just four short weeks I have seen so much determination and resilience in my class. The smiles and laughter on their faces every class are awesome. They’re not afraid to fail, but the excitement when they nail a new move is amazing.”
Be part of a wonderful community
Meeting like-minded people through a HulaFit class is a beautiful thing. Coming together each week to have a laugh, play games, improve your hooping skills, get stronger and have loads of fun while doing it is the community that so many of us need right now. Knowing your buddies are going to be there can help with motivation, and sticking with a fitness routine.
Here’s what one HulaFit participant told us about her class: “Excellent, really welcoming and I wasn’t at all intimated stepping into a new class with no previous experience – I had fun throughout the entire thing and felt really supported by the whole class”
Lois, one of our participants told us HulaFit classes are “A friendly warm atmosphere where everyone encourages each other. I have made some lovely friends through HulaFit who I look forward to seeing every week”
It can feel so easy to fall into the work hard and crash in front of the telly cycle. Finding a community in your local area, hooping or otherwise, can do wonders for your mental health, which neatly leads us to our next point.
A positive mental health boost
We’ve written before about the mental health benefits of hula hooping, but we’ll shout about it from the rooftops until everyone gives it a go! Exercise can do wonders for your mental health, and finding a fantastic community of fun fitness friends can do even more!
A participant in one of Carla’s, the HulaFit Director, classes said: “Whether that’s online or in-person Carla is full of energy and positivity. Every class is like therapy for the mind and the body and is never boring!”
Kim, one of our HulaFit Core Crew told us: “I think it’s a mental workout too – where I am concentrating on the moves, I forget any worries or things on my mind. So it is a real release for me to do it and it brings a smile to my face and boosts my mood every time”
Learn cool skills, that could even pay the bills!
Did you know, that you can turn your love of HulaFit into a great side hustle or career? If you love HulaFit so much that you want to bring a class to your local community, we want to hear from you. We’re expanding our HulaFit core crew family, could you be next?
Abby, one of our instructors, told us “It’s helped me as an instructor become a valued member of my local community and as someone who’s not from where I live that has been invaluable.
Not only do my attendees make friends at class, but they often invite me out for get-togethers too, as I find most people in the hoop community are very like-minded, easy going and want a giggle”
Final Thoughts
At HulaFit, we don’t do before and after photos. For us, the internal glow-up is the most important thing. We hope these non-physical benefits of hooping have inspired you to book your first class. Every excellent hula hooper was once a beginner too!
