Do you love hula hooping? Or perhaps you are hoop-curious and would like to find out more? Seeing as Feburary is the most-loved up month of the year, we wanted to explore why people love hula hooping so much, and how it could become your new favourite hobby.
We hate to break this to you, but hooping is addictive! There’s something so satisfying about unlocking a skill that you couldn’t do previously. With hooping, the possibilities are endless, whether you are a fitness fanatic, love learning circus skills, or simply want a way to express yourself and move your body dancing with your hoop.
To mark the month of love, We asked Hulafit Instructors, participants and the wider hula hoop community why they love hula hooping so much. Is love in the air? The love for their hula hoops and local HulaFit communities certainly is. But don’t just take our word for it:
We’ve got a lotta love for Hooping
“One of the reasons why I love hula hooping so much is the flexibility and freedom to move in a way that reflects my mood.
Sometimes I feel like getting sweaty and stronger; squatting and lunging with a weighted hoop around my waist. Sometimes I want to dance to my favourite songs, using a smaller hoop, and flow to the music. When I flow – which is combining dancing with hoop tricks – the hoop basically becomes an extension of my body.
Whether I feel like fitness or flow, hula hooping fully absorbs my attention, meaning I can forget about anything that’s worrying me and just move!”
Daisy (HoopyDais) – HulaFit Instructor
“I love hula hooping because it’s so many things. It can be fun, silly and whimsical, It can be challenging, technical and a rigorous workout.
Hooping is jamming to music with friends in the park, it’s the rush of nailing a new trick, it’s a mediative flow, it’s hours of drilling technique, it’s the satisfaction of progression, it’s getting a sweat on, it’s solving a puzzle, it’s clowning around, it’s freedom, it’s making a tit of myself, it’s creating shapes, it’s expression, it’s a journey, it’s an obsession. It’s bringing joy to people around me when I teach them hoop skills or wow them with a badass combo.
Hooping makes me think outside the box, motivates me to move, keeps me on my toes, challenges my coordination, strengthens my core, calms me down, lifts me up, reminds me not to take myself too seriously and has brought me years of happiness.”
